Qualifications:
I am a fully registered teacher for the Learning Disabilities Association of New Zealand and SPELD NZ working for SLD and SPELD here in Nelson. I have a Diploma in Teaching, a Bachelor of Education and have completed the SPELD Level 5 certificate Course in Specific Learning Disabilities.

Personal Experience:
For the past few years I have been involved as a committee member for the Parent to Parent organisation as well as a Support Parent providing a listening ear and offering assistance to other parents whose children have specific learning disabilities particularly dyspraxia. I am the mother of four boys, two of whom have specific learning disabilities. I therefore bring to this position both empathy and understanding which comes through personal experience.

What can be expected from the tuition offered?
The tuition I offer builds a picture of your child’s strengths and weaknesses in order to create a tailor-made programme to cater for your child’s individual needs. This programme takes a holistic approach of being able to tackle things from the wider perspective of considering what cognitive contributing factors may be playing a role in the difficulties your child is experiencing.

The sessions are approximately an hour in length and offer a variety of activities that incorporate both fun and learning. The goal is for the students to enjoy the learning process while also picking up important concepts and strategies that will be useful in overcoming the difficulties they are having. The sessions consist of a combination of multisensory learning experiences incorporating a range of literacy activities and games.  The concepts covered are taught in a manner that is direct and explicit; sequential; cumulative and structured.

The cost for each session is $50. There are avenues of financial assistance that can be applied for to cover the cost of lessons should parents and caregivers require support.
I am delighted to have the opportunity of being able to introduce the services Enriching Lives can offer.
